Auto Pound

The Irving Police Department Auto Pound stores vehicles and property impounded for reasons such as accidents, no insurance, arrests, recovered stolen vehicles, abandoned vehicles, parking violations, roadway hazards, or evidentiary purposes.

To locate or retrieve your vehicle, please have the following information ready:

  1. License plate number
  2. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  3. Impound number
  4. Registered owner or driver’s name and vehicle description
  5. Related Irving Police report number


Vehicle Release Requirements:

  1. Registered Owner must present:
  2. Valid government-issued ID
  3. Current proof of insurance
  4. Vehicle title (proof of ownership)
  5. Non-Owners must also provide one of the following:
  6. Notarized release form, power of attorney, repossession docs, hospital note, death certificate, court order, jail release, or a current rental agreement

Additional Info:

  1. Only personal ID items may be retrieved from vehicles awaiting insurance transfer.
  2. Parts like tires or electronics cannot be removed without police approval and presence.
  3. No one under 18 is allowed past the gate. Children must be supervised.
  4. Only one person may enter the lot at a time (exceptions for disabilities).
  5. Vehicles with a police “Hold” require contact with Irving PD Auto Pound.
  6. Insurance releases must be completed in person.
  7. If using a third-party wrecker, both the customer and wrecker must be present and pay fees together.

Vehicle Viewing (no release):

Must show one of the following IDs:

  1. Valid state ID or DL, passport, government-issued ID, photo work/school ID, or jail wristband.
  2. Birth certificates and Social Security cards are not accepted.



Payments:

  1. Accepted: Cash or credit/debit cards (except American Express)
  2. Not accepted: Personal checks or virtual credit cards
  3. Call ahead to confirm payment details

Standard Fees:

  1. Light Duty Tow: $145
  2. Medium Duty: $175/hour
  3. Heavy Duty: $250/hour
  4. Impound Fee: $21.03
  5. Daily Storage: $21.03 (under 25 ft) or $36.80 (over 25 ft)
  6. Notification Fee (after 24 hrs): $50
  7. Sales tax (8.25%) applies to impound and storage fees
  8. Credit card surcharge: 1.75%

Special Fees:

  1. $3.00 per mile for vehicles towed from outside Irving
  2. Off-Road Recovery: Price based on equipment, time, and distance — call ahead for estimate


City of Irving Auto Pound – Online Vehicle Auctions

  1. Conducted by Lone Star Auctioneers, Inc. at LSOauctions.com
  2. Auctions begin on a Friday and close 10 days later on the 3rd Monday of the auction month
  3. Preview Day: Held on the first Thursday after the auction begins (Day 7), from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  4. Valid government-issued photo ID required
  5. Must be 18+ to enter the lot

2025 Auction Closing Dates:

  1. February 17, 2025
  2. April 14, 2025
  3. June 16, 2025
  4. July 14, 2025
  5. August 18, 2025
  6. October 20, 2025
  7. December 15, 2025

Important Notes:

  1. Must register online before bidding
  2. Vehicles will not be released once the auction begins without a court order
  3. City of Irving employees and family members are prohibited from participating (per Ordinance #3488)
  4. Vehicle removal requires a TXDOT-certified tow truck; dollies and trailers are not permitted
