Irving Named “Scenic City”
The City of Irving has once again been recognized for its dedication to scenic conservation and urban beautification, earning the Platinum-level Scenic City Certification from Scenic Texas.
This marks an advancement from Irving’s 2010 Bronze-level designation and reaffirms the city’s commitment to maintaining high visual and environmental standards for another five years, through 2030.
Irving was recognized with other Texas cities on Oct. 30 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, during the Texas Municipal League Annual Conference.
This prestigious honor places Irving among the most visually and environmentally progressive cities in Texas. The Platinum certification reaffirms Irving’s long-standing commitment to preserving its natural beauty, historic charm and thoughtfully planned public spaces — ensuring a scenic legacy that will endure for generations.
To qualify, Texas cities must first meet a series of core requirements, including a strictly enforced sign ordinance, a ban on new billboards and a comprehensive landscaping and tree-planting program. Beyond these essentials, applicants are evaluated on more than 70 additional criteria, ranging from park and open-space standards to lighting design, litter control, and utility management. Cities that meet the highest benchmarks earn one of five certification levels: Recognized, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.
First certified as a Bronze Scenic City in 2010, Irving has made continuous progress in enhancing its visual environment. The city’s Platinum recertification highlights its strong unity of design standards, Tree City USA designation and comprehensive landscaping ordinance governing major roadways, medians and public areas. These achievements reflect Irving’s long-standing dedication to maintaining a clean, green and visually cohesive urban environment.
