Citizens Fire Academy

The Irving Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy, established in 2002, is a great opportunity for the citizens or businesses of Irving to learn more about their fire department, free of charge.

What is the Citizens Fire Academy?

The Citizens Fire Academy gives Fire Department personnel the opportunity to introduce and demonstrate the many ways the department serves the public.

Participants will learn about and participate in demonstrations of a wide variety of departmental functions, including firefighting, Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Truck and Engine operations, Tactical Medicine, EMS, and much more.

Participants will additionally learn about the many functions of the Fire Marshals Office, through courses taught by the Fire/Arson Investigation Unit, the Public Education Unit, and Recruiting.

When

The Academy is offered twice a year, spring and fall, and meets one evening per week from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

We are accepting applications for our Spring 2026 class, which will start in March. Registration deadline is March 1st, 2026. Apply here!
