Keep Kids Connected: Renew by Feb. 20
All Youth Cards not renewed since mid-October will be set to expire Feb. 20, 2026. Renew now to stay connected to library services.
The countdown to "February 2.0" has begun, a total youth card reset for Irving's public library system. This announcement is for library-going parents of children under the age of 18 whose cards have not been renewed since Oct. 15, 2025.
The library now offers two new youth card types for children and teens. These card types were introduced in October for parents who’d like age-restricted access regarding what their children can check out. There is also a card type for youth that offers the same borrowing privileges as adults. Student cards, which do not allow check out of physical or digital materials, are not included in this reset.
To help parents choose the card type that best fits their family’s needs, all Youth/Minor cards must be renewed in person by Feb. 20. During the renewal, only parents/guardians listed on the account can select the access level for each child. All youth cards that are eligible will be set to expire on Feb. 20, 2026 if they have not been renewed since Oct. 15. The new expiration date will be visible on patron accounts online after Dec. 17.
Let's keep the kids connected to all the great services each of these library cards offer by renewing today!
Learn before you go:
What are the new card types and what do they offer?
Visit the library's Card Types page and select the "Youth Cards | Ages 17 and Under" drop down entry to read more about the new card types specifically and access a PDF brochure on Youth Card types.
Do I have to bring my children to the library for the renewal?
Possibly. If the parent has the child's library card, the child does not have to be present. If the child is present at the renewal, the parent does not have to have the child's library card.
What if it's been a long time since my child was signed up and has not been an active user?
Accounts with no fines are removed from the system after three years of inactivity. If unsure, please call (972) 721-2440 to be connected to a preferred library location before arriving to renew and have the child’s library card number available.
Must I throw away my child's current physical card?
No. The physical card will stay the same regardless of the youth card type selected in the system. Those wishing to replace the card design or who cannot locate the card, may purchase a replacement by paying a $2 fee.
What happens if I do nothing?
The youth cards for your children will expire on Feb. 20 and they will not be able to check out materials. If not renewed, an account with no fines may be removed from the system after 3 years of inactivity.
