Card Information for Irving Residents

The Irving Public Library will issue residents of Irving who are 18 years or older a card which will be valid at other participating libraries for up to one year from the date of issue.


When borrowing an item from another library, the patron will typically be required to present their TexShare card and a valid photo such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID card. The lending library may have additional conditions or restrictions for borrowers, so check the TexShare registration and lending policies prior to visiting.


Requesting a TexShare Card at Irving Public Library

Irving residents may request a TexShare Card at the checkout desk of any Irving Public Library provided they meet the following conditions:


Must be resident of Irving and 18 years of age or older.


Must have had a valid full access Irving Public Library card for at least six months.


Must present acceptable identification in person or scan and attach to an email sent to Circulation@irvingtx.gov with the text "Register for TexShare Card" in the subject line.

Staff cannot guarantee the security of personal information emailed to the library.


The borrower account is in good standing with no overdue materials and no outstanding charges for lost or damaged materials.


The account has been in good standing for the previous six months.


Must agree to abide by the rules, policies, and procedures of the TexShare card program and its participating libraries.


TexShare Visitor Card for Irving Public Library


Adults who have a TexShare card from a home library outside Irving may present the required photo and address IDs, their TexShare card, and their home library card in order to receive a free library card from IPL which allows a five-item checkout limit.


In order to renew in person, the cardholder must present the same documents at the Checkout Desk and meet all eligibility requirements – card must be in good standing and maintained a clean record for the previous six months.


In order to request or renew by email, the cardholder must scan and submit the required photo and address IDs, the front and back of the TexShare card from the home library, the front and back of the home library card and include “Register for TexShare Card" or “Renew TexShare Card” in the email subject line to Circulation@irvingtx.gov (all account eligibility requirements still apply where applicable). The library cannot guarantee the security of personal information emailed to the library.


The cardholder also has access to the public computers and the library’s online resources and eBooks.


The TexShare Visitor card will be valid until the expiration date on the card or one year, whichever is less.


The account must be maintained in good standing in order to renew the TexShare card.


Card Restrictions

Failure to promptly return materials borrowed with a TexShare card and/or pay any charges imposed by a library may result in suspension or denial of borrowing privileges at the Irving Public Library and/or the account being turned over the library’s collection agency.

To register for or renew a library card please present a photo ID from the List A below that shows your current address. If the ID does not list the current address or if the ID is expired then a separate proof of Address ID from List B is required. Address ID from List B must show name and the current address. A listed P.O. Box address is not proof of residency.


List A - Photo ID

Photocopies of IDs are not accepted

  1. Driver’s license
  2. State or federal government ID
  3. US military or veteran ID
  4. Passport (U.S. or non-U.S.)
  5. Foreign government ID
  6. Residency or employment visa
  7. Work photo ID
  8. Irving Parks & Rec ID
  9. School ID (must be current for Irving Student Card)


List B - Address ID

Within 3 months, official electronic version is acceptable

  1. Car or vehicle insurance
  2. Recent utility bill
  3. Signed lease agreement
  4. Recent paycheck stub
  5. Voter’s registration card
  6. Recent business mail
  7. Current report card with address listed
  8. Proof of current enrollment
