Neighborhood Planning Ground Rules

To ensure a respectful, inclusive, and productive planning process, all participants — whether attending a meeting, sharing feedback or serving on the Neighborhood Support Team — are asked to follow these basic ground rules.

  1. Respect all voices. Every person’s opinion matters. Listen actively and allow others to share their thoughts without interruption.
  2. Speak from your experience. Share your ideas and concerns honestly, and be open to hearing different perspectives.
  3. Assume good intentions. We may not always agree, but we are all here to work toward the best future for the neighborhood.
  4. Stay focused. Keep comments and feedback related to the topic or goal being discussed.
  5. Be solution-oriented. Express concerns in a constructive way and be open to working together on ideas for improvement.
  6. Be mindful of time and space. Make room for everyone to participate, especially those who may be less comfortable speaking up.
  7. Honor the process. The final plan will reflect a wide range of community input — not just one voice or perspective. Everyone’s contributions help shape the result.
