The Library System is Getting an Upgrade!

  Go Back

Reset, return and renew before Oct. 8.

Many library services will be unavailable from Oct. 8 through approximately Oct. 14 as the Irving Public Library moves to a new database, allowing exciting new features to be added this year, such as a new catalog and mobile app.

Services that will be down will include:
  1. Placing hold requests
  2. Returning checked out items
  3. Renewing checked out items
  4. Renewing an expired library card
  5. Paying a fine or fee
  6. Accessing library account info online
  7. Check out without a library card (i.e. with a photo ID or other information besides a library card number)
  8. PIN resets
  9. Replacing lost library cards
  10. Registering new library cards
  11. Utilizing Interlibrary Loan services

Services expected to remain available* include:
  1. Borrowing library materials (limit of five items per visit)
  2. Most digital services (online databases, hoopla, Libby)
  3. Limited access to library catalog (current status of items will not be available)
  4. Public computer access
  5. Printing, faxing and scanning
  6. Library events and programs (including MiY Zones)

* Some services will have limited availability and may experience slowness or downtime.

No items will be due during this time, and no library

accounts will expire.

Review, Reset and Return

REVIEW your library card number and the location of your physical library card.

  1. The card number will be required for access to all library services during the migration.
  2. Patrons unable to locate their card can purchase a replacement for $2 at any library location prior to Oct. 8.
  3. Patrons are asked to check the expiration date of their account.
  4. Accounts set to expire during the migration will be extended, but accounts that are already expired must be renewed by the account holder prior to or after the database move. Library card renewal information is available online.

RESET your library card PIN if needed.

  1. PINs are required to access library PCs and online services.
  2. Neither patrons nor library staff will be able to reset PINs during the migration. Patrons who do not know their PIN should reset it on the library website.

RETURN unwanted items.

  1. Returns will not be accepted during the database move, as staff will be unable to check them in to remove them from patrons’ accounts.
  2. Patrons who have items they no longer need should return those items prior to the move.
  3. Patrons should feel free to hold on to any items still in their possession during the migration.
