The PRIDE Program

The Positive Role Models In Drug Education (PRIDE) Program is Irving’s school-based anti-drug initiative for youth, established in 1989 through collaboration between educators, police, citizens, and business leaders. Launched during the 1990–91 school year, PRIDE is a joint effort between the Irving Police Department and local school districts, currently active in 21 elementary schools. Its primary goals are to educate students on making positive choices regarding drugs, gangs, and peer pressure, to connect them with trusted police role models, and to enhance the department's image within the community. The program emphasizes abstinence from alcohol and drugs as the only safe choice for school-age children. Committed to continuous improvement, PRIDE invites community involvement and feedback to ensure its continued effectiveness.
