Winter Weather Update
A significant winter weather event is expected to impact Irving beginning Friday evening, Jan. 23, and continuing into early next week. City operations will be impacted through the weekend.
Updated Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, 11:35 a.m.
- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all of North Texas from Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 25 at noon.
- An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for all of North Texas from Saturday evening, Jan. 24, through Monday morning, Jan 26, due to single-digit temperatures and subzero wind chill values.
Freezing rain, sleet, snow and dangerously cold temperatures could create hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages. Visit the National Weather Service Forth Worth/Dallas website for the latest updates.
- Plan ahead, limit travel when possible and take steps now to protect people, pets, pipes and property.
City Operations
- Friday, Jan. 23: All Irving aquatics facilities, the Irving Arts Center, libraries, museums and recreation centers will close early at 6 p.m.
- Irving Arts Center: All performances for Jan. 23 are cancelled.
- Saturday, Jan. 24: All nonessential city services, including aquatics facilities, the Irving Arts Center, libraries, museums, recreation centers, Municipal Court, Hunter Ferrell Landfill and the Irving Animal Care Campus, will be closed due to inclement weather.
- Irving Animal Services: Animal Services Officers will be responding to emergency calls only during this winter weather event.
- Irving Arts Center: All events and performances are cancelled for Saturday and Sunday.
- Sunday, Jan. 25: All nonessential city services, including the Irving Arts Center, libraries and museums, are closed due to inclement weather.
- Monday, Jan. 26: A number of advisory board meetings for Monday evening are cancelled. View the meeting calendar.

Tips for residents
- Outside water service: Turn off sprinklers, disconnect and drain hoses and cover outdoor faucets and exposed pipes.
- Pets: If possible, bring inside for the duration of the event. Provide warm shelters if unable to bring pets indoors.
- Indoor plumbing: Drip faucets for any plumbing adjacent to an outside wall to keep pipes from freezing. Open cabinet doors to improve air flow to pipes.
- Power: Expect and prepare for electricity outages. Contact Oncor to report power outages.
