Fire Public Education

The Irving Fire Department’s Public Education Division is dedicated to sharing fire safety education with the entire City of Irving!

Our goal is to make Irving a safe city for our residents, commuters, and visitors. We do this by providing fire safety classes – in-person, and working closely with our Inspections and Investigation divisions in the Fire Marshal’s office.

LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SAFETY

Did you know that Lithium-Ion batteries can explode? These batteries are in everyday devices such as phones, laptops, vapes, and power tools. These fires burn very hot and may not be extinguished with water or a fire extinguisher.

Prevent these fires by taking C.H.A.R.G.E.!

Choose certified products. Don’t use aftermarket chargers and batteries.

Handle with care. Try not to drop or damage the batteries.

Always stay alert. Do not charge the batteries unattended or while you are asleep.

Recycle properly. Dispose of the battery at approved sites, not in the city garbage collection.

Get out quickly. Lithium-Ion battery fires spread fast. Know your escape plan before an emergency happens.

Educate others. Spread the word! Knowledge can save lives.
